“I Have Heard Your Heart…”

We love Him because He first loved us.  I John 4:19

There is something written in the heart of man that yearns to be loved and to know that the deep things in our heart have been heard by the one we love.

Clearly, the whole gospel is built on relationships, first with God and then with others.

The Ten Commandments deals with relationships. The first four commandments speak to our relationship with God, the last six with one another. Marriage, parenting and friendships are all lived out in the context of relationship. The Body of Christ is relational in nature. We were made for love and relationship!

One of the most meaningful aspects of a relationship is the sharing of hearts and a key element in sharing hearts is the desire to be heard. There is something so satisfying about another person saying, “I have heard your heart and I understand.”

God hears the heart

In reading the Psalms we see that David often cried out to the Lord for understanding.  He was confident that God would hear and respond, bringing salvation, deliverance from his enemies, or restoration, as was his nature.

David said in Psalm 17, “Hear a just cause, O Lord,

                                         Attend to my cry;

                                         Give ear to my prayer

                                         …I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God;

                                         Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.

To hear means:  to become aware of, to listen to and consider, to take notice of, to pay attention to.  David is asking God to “incline His ear” to him, to take notice of him and to pay attention to the cry of his heart.  Are you thinking, “Now that is bold!”? No, that is the nature of relationship!

It is in the hearing of one another that real relationship occurs and intimacy happens.  It begins with our knowing that God really hears us.  He wants to establish relationship with us.  He wants to have conversations with us.  He wants us to feel safe with Him.  He wants to establish intimacy with us.

David said, “I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry (Psalm 40:1).

He expressed his love for the Lord “because He has heard my voice… because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore, I will call upon Him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1-2). When I think of David saying that God inclined His ear towards him, I can picture God bending down and leaning into the conversation in such a relational way.

David encourages us to “Trust in Him at all times…  Pour out your heart before HimGod is a refuge for us.” Pour means to give full expression to what is in your heart (Psalm 62:8).

Relationship is a two-way conversation

The Father speaks quite clearly and lovingly about our need to hear Him, as well.

“Blessed is the man who listens to Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My doors” (Proverbs 8:34).

“Whoever listens (hears and responds) to Me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil” (Proverbs 1:33).

Negative voices are loud and persistent

We live in a world filled with negative voices – real or imagined. They are the voices that say, “You didn’t do it right, you are worthless, unlovable, no one really cares about you and what you have to say is not important.” The negative voices are so loud and persistent that they become easy to believe.

But our Father wants us to know how beloved we are, how important we are to Him:

He listens.

He hears!

He does not walk away before you are through speaking.

He doesn’t ignore you.

He isn’t preoccupied or disinterested.

He is not nervous or uncomfortable with your feelings and emotions.

He knows the sound of your voice.

His heart is moved by your words, and touched by your situation.

He is stirred, open and compassionate towards you.

Know, even as David knew, that when you speak, God is listening, hearing, inclining Himself towards you.

Let His voice silence all other voices.

    @Debra Hoskins
    Debra,
    How encouraging your testimony is!!! It helps me to trust God to show me what He wants to do through me. It’s not enough to just lay down our own thoughts, works, etc., but we need to see the awesome plans He has and not be afraid to step into them. Something happened in my heart as I read your message. First a new appreciation for the Lord to care about every heart’s cry, and second to believe in His creative miracles to flow through even me.

    Thank you Jane for not only sharing your heart with us but the heart of the Father. For as we are one with The Father, so He speaks.
    I was taken back as I read your blog, to the repeated dream God gave me 2 years ago. I had this dream 3 times. I was lifted up, looking down at acres and acres of pasture. Jesus was walking over to one lone sheep.I saw Him squat down and place His arms under the sheep. I heard my own voice say “Oh, He going to pick him up and carry him, oh He’s undergirding him.” Just then, my dream zoomed for a close up view to the side of Jesus’s face. He had His ear on the side of the sheep, listening to his heart! Again, I heard my own voice say “Oh He is listening to the sheeps heartbeat, Aahhh! He’s listening to the sheeps heart!”
    I had this identical dream 3 times within a month. A few weeks later I had fallen asleep in my recliner next to the fireplace, all nice and cozy. This time, off in the spirit and into another dream, I found myself going through the door of a Christain Bookstore. It was like I was looking through a video camera lens. I see the cash register on the left and pictures displayed on the wall behind the counter. This camera zooms into a painting of Jesus and the sheep, identical to how I saw it in my dream! The zoom continued to a close up of a gold engraved plaque that read “He hears your heart’s cry” by Debra Hoskins! I immediately sat up and placed my hand on my heart, gasping in awe and wonder! Yes I wondered what God was up to because I had never done anything artistically to that extreme. My exact words were ” Oh my gosh, Lord, this is more than anything I could do, You’re going to have to do it!” I have been an artist all my life, pencil, ink, pastels and very little acrylic and oil. My expertise was windowpainting and sign making as I owned and operated my own sign company for 20 years before going fulltime ministry. Well long story short, a year later, through the Holy Spirit’s divine creativity flowing through me, it was completed and now hangs in TBN Seattle. It has been translated into the creole and french language and printed off into 10,000 walletsize prints for the trauma victims of Haiti. It has just been translated into spanish for a ministry going to Costa Rica in a few weeks. God told me His people need to know that He hears their heart’s cry. These little walletsize prints have been awesome evangelistic tools for the missionfield, whether it be overseas or right here in our own neighborhoods. Everywhere we go is God’s missionfield field and He has used His Idea that came in the form of a simple dream, as an open door for the lost, sick and brokenhearted in every arena of life. I continue to stand in awe and wonder what He will do next.
    Oh yes, my name, ministry name or website is not listed anywhere on the walletsize prints on purpose. (The copyright is invisible to the naked eye.)
    I was so happy God prompted me not to, even as much as several ministires were pushing me to at least put my website on the back. God said NO very clearly before I took a suitcase of over 10,000 prints to Haiti. Upon arrival to the Mission house, I was told by the Pastor of the President of Haiti, that if there was any info leading back to me then we couldn’t pass them out. Thank You Jesus! We were Free and Clear to distribute at hospitals, orpahanges, the streets and to thousands at our crusade in front of the Presidential Palace from Good Friday to Easter just this year. Hallelujah, He hears the heart’s cry of every tribe and tongue, in every single situation, every second, every minute, every hour of every day, and His glory will cover the earth just as the earth covers the sea.

    So encouraging! Thank you, Jane!
    It is such a deep need in people to be heard, to be paid attention to, to be listened to, to be understood. And who can do it better than our Father! It is so wonderful that He is not too busy (like Raivo said)! :) It is of vital importance that we take time for the people we care for. Time to translate your blog now and forward your uplifting message to our Aglow ladies.

    Dear Jane,

    Your blog post came through my email yesterday. I decided to wait til this morning knowing that your blog and all the comments added would bless the start of my day. I can’t think of a better way to start my day than to be reminded of how precious each and everyone of us are to God. Thank you

    I copied the paragraph listed below from Pamela Eichorn’s reply. I wanted to stand in agreement with the words she spoke.

    “May it be that we will be as the church in Russia, that did not even voice where the believers would meet but by the spirit, were all led to the same location. Father God…may that be us. That you will supernaturally give divine revelations of agreement, revelation and the locations for us and the nations to hear…. only Your voice.”

    Oh’ for all of us to be so connected with God that the Holy Spirit can gather us like chicks to the places we need to be through devine revelation.

    In this century of speed when we all understood that we all are busy. When we write some letter, e-mail or leave message to the answering machine knowing they are busy and there will be no answer to my cry for relationships. God remains as He was always inclining His ear to listen us. Awesome and powerful creator of the entire universe leaves all His duties to bend down to hear His child. I can imagine wide smile on His face and soft voice “All my attention is towards you!”
    This gives incredible encouragement thanks for reminding us what is most important -relationships.

And this amazing and awesome messages from today and previous messages listed here has blessed my spirit. Thank God for the revelations and instruction! I have been in communion with God over the past week and have asked Him to reveal those things that neeed to be revealed, remove those things that need to be removed and allow me to make wise decisions, break generational curses and stand firm as a believer. Thank you all, comments and all for edifying the masses and givng God the glory!

    Let His voice silence all other voices.

    What would this be like?

    Frances Chan writes that he decided to read the Bible…he asked God to help…as though he had not read it and as he would have been around 12 years old. This way, he hoped to read it with…no other voices…no other interpretations…just the instruction of God.

    In order to be able to walk out the mandate of reconciliation the ability to “silence all other voices” will be crucial. It cannot be just a reformation of habit, it will have to be a reshifting of mindsets. Christ was never exclusive…he was always inclusive. Exclusiveness has been a problem in the Body since the fall. Married, single, widow(er), children…no children. How do we walk this out? Do we carry on as usual…no, we cannot. With intentionality, we will need to ask God to reveal to us thought patterns, ideals, humor, responses, and even visions that were from “other voices.” We form habits from what is termed “expected responses.”

    May it be that we will be as the church in Russia, that did not even voice where the believers would meet but by the spirit, were all led to the same location. Father God…may that be us. That you will supernaturally give divine revelations of agreement, revelation and the locations for us and the nations to hear…. only Your voice.

    Relationship is a two-way conversation: Such as;

    My Bride, I’ve endowed you with eternal blessings. I’ve given you the Joy of My Presence.
    Anyone who believes in Me can come and drink of My Spirit! My written Word explains;
    then ‘Rivers of Living water will flow from your heart.’ This is truth, My unfailing Love is
    toward those who fear Me. My everlasting Love is like the great expanse of heaven from
    earth, it is unending, unconditional, and eternal. I’ve removed Your sin as far as the
    east is from the west. Enjoy My compassionate Love and do not fear, anything!
    ~~~~~
    Lord, I thank You for the greatness of Your eternal blessings. My heart is filled
    with Joy in Your Presence, and I believe You. As You speak to me here and now, and
    from all I read of You in the truths and promises in Your Word! I chose to draw closer to
    Your heart today to recieve all You have for me, intimately. I know You’ll use this precious time to impart into me all I need. Then You’ll cause Your Spirit to flow through mine as a reflection of You. Deep within my innermost being where You dwell, compassionately Loving me, and sweetly expressing through me, Your unending and unconditional Love.
    As I surrender unto You my heart, my life, and my time, I will fear nothing. I will simply watch for You, and listen for ‘Your Hearts Sound,’ directing mine today.
    ~ In Jesus Name Amen! ~
    Thank You Jane for sharing on how God hears our heart. I have been crying out to him for deliverance and he has been quiet. The enemy tries to lie that God doesn’t listen to my cry, but I know he does because the word of God says, “the devil is a liar. I am expecting my deliverance to come soon, so I can get back to doing the work of the Lord.
