Welcome to Our Worldwide Conference!
Greetings and welcome to the Aglow International 2011 Worldwide Conference. My name is Rick, I’m the Creative Services Director at Aglow Headquarters, and I’ll be posting daily reports of the happenings here in Houston. This first report is at the end of the day on Wednesday. Most of the Aglow staff have been here since Monday, and the GCST (General Conference Support Team) have been here for much longer than that. As a matter of fact, the GCST have been working here in Houston for months getting ready for the conference. Thanks, y’all!
Today we opened registration, mostly for our international attendees who arrive early for the International Council meetings and regional gatherings. Walking around the registration area was like being in a meeting at the United Nations. How exciting to see the nations gathering. I can’t wait for the Parade of Nations on Thursday evening!
The Amazing GCST
Back to the GCST for a minute… this amazing group of volunteers have spent countless hours of preparation getting ready for this conference. One thing is for sure, it could not happen without them. We want to give special thanks to the Conference Chair Judy Parks; Co-Chair Claudia Stokes; Administrative Chair Lydia McCroskey, and the many, many others on the team who have worked so hard to make this event a reality.
The Aglow SECO (Special Events and Conference Office) team, led by our Director, Arvie Murff, had nothing but praise for the hard work and dedication of the GCST. From steaming flags, to promoting the conference with local media outlets, the team performed an invaluable service to Aglow and the thousands of attendees that will walk through the doors this weekend.
The video below was produced by our Media Editor, Ashley Paul, and gives you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what this team does.
The major event today was a gathering of mainly attendees from outside the US, many of whom are national leaders. Jane greeted the group and shared her perspective on where we’ve been as a ministry and where she feels God is taking us. She said that we’re walking in what God says about us — who we are, and who we are becoming. Speaking to the international group, Jane said that God has placed you in the nations of the world, and He is doing an incredible thing in you that is about to explode.
Jane then introduced Jervae Brooks, Aglow’s International Field Director, and Linda Jones, our U.S. Field Director, who both gave a greeting. She then introduced Graham Cooke, who most of you know is a great friend of Aglow, a Covenant Partner, a major donor, and one who has been instrumental over the last several years in helping to guide us into this next phase in the life of this ministry.
Graham shared some insightful leadership concepts with those attending the International Council. Our intention is to take these sessions and make them available via the Web and through DVDs for leadership training.
It was a good day. Tomorrow will be the Worldwide Leaders Summit, and then in the evening, the Flag Parade with Chuck Pierce speaking. Can’t wait!
