He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realise just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.
– John Mark Mcmillan (from the song How He Loves)
The sound of His extravagant love has echoed through the halls of the McEnery Convention Center throughout this conference. And today, as we gathered for our final session, the sound grew to a crescendo and we were all swept away by His radiance and glory. God is doing a new thing in Aglow. The old was great, but the new season into which we are stepping will eclipse all that has happened before. At the core of this new thing is an increased awareness of God’s unconditional, uncompromising, unstoppable love for his children. We are resting in that love and move into the future with confidence.
A Shift Took Place
Without a doubt, the apex of this conference was Saturday morning when Ray Hughes brought a stirring message about sound and light, followed by a time of worship and prayer that left us all breathless in the power of His presence. A shift happened during that session that is difficult to articulate, but very real nonetheless. The sound from that morning session was sustained throughout the afternoon and evening meetings. By Sunday morning we were all feeling like the Lord had accomplished His purpose for this conference, and so Jane decided it would be good to spend the time reflecting on what had happened the previous two days. She asked the regional directors to each share a “takeaway” — something that was significant to them about this conference.
But first, we have to tell you about a report from Sandy Wezowicz and Arlene Samuels.
Aglow and AIPAC
One of the many facets of Aglow is our growing relationship with AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. The New York Timescalls AIPAC “the most important organization affecting America’s relationship with Israel.” Sandy Wezowicz, Aglow’s Watchmen on the Wall Director, says “God is developing a strategic partnership between AIPAC and Aglow.” In their report at the beginning of this session, Sandy and Arlene shared the following amazing facts:
- The U.S. Congress consistently stands with Israel on the world stage — the only elected officials from any country who do so.
- This past June, congress passed the strongest sanctions ever against Iran and their efforts to develop nuclear capability. Congress showed unusual solidarity with 99 senators and 400 house members voting yes to pass this legislation.
- Jewish members of AIPAC are deeply touched by the support they have received from Aglow and other Christians.
Please pray for wisdom as we continue to develop our relationship with AIPAC and support the nation and people of Israel.
Following the report, Sandy led us in a prayer for the peace of Jerusalem as we joined countless others around the world on this day to pray for Israel.
Here are just a few of the takeaways shared by the regional directors:
Nancy McGuirk – The assignment on Aglow can seem overwhelming. As we go where He tells us to go and do what He tells us to do we will be like the sheep my kids have raised over the years and have often entered in competitions. The sheep are trained using a halter. They learn to follow and obey their master’s voice. But several weeks before the competition, the halter is removed and sheep are led only by the voice and a gentle hand under the chin. This means the sheep could easily bolt during the competition, but that never happened. I feel that the Lord is removing the halter from Aglow because we have reached a point where we consistently hear His voice and obey.
Karen Reed – We need to sing a new song to get the old song out.
Sandy Wezowicz- The door is closed from being present-to-past. We’re dancing on the graves of the old sounds. The new sound has come because we are worshipers and praisers.
Glenda Flemming – I believe Psalm 89:15-18 is for us:
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.
In Your name they rejoice all day long,
And in Your righteousness they are exalted.
For You are the glory of their strength,
And in Your favor our horn is exalted.
For our shield belongs to the LORD,
And our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Jane concluded the session by sharing: “I’ve been receiving a deeper deposit of the understanding that God is good. In the past year and a half I’m finding that I’m starting with heaven instead of earth. It’s blowing me away. What if you made the decision that nothing could challenge you but heaven? As we change our perspective, we will be carriers of His goodness.”
It’s been an amazing conference. God has moved us another step forward to our destiny, to the new sound He has for Aglow. What will we look like a year from now as we gather in Houston? Only God knows!
